Easter Traditions
The world has many traditions related to Easter. Some you will know, but others will surprise you.
European Easter Traditions
In most of Europe the Easter Hare is welcomed as the bringer of spring. Only in Britain and the English speaking world has he changed species to become the Easter Bunny. The reason for this switch from Hare to Rabbit is not fully known. It may simply be that young rabbits are more appealing, so when in the 19th century the Easter Hare began to appear in drawings, advertising, cards and children's newspapers, he quickly transformed into the Easter Rabbit and hence into the Easter Bunny for aesthetic reasons.
Easter City Breaks
In Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, there is a tradition of spanking women on Easter Monday. Tradition is that wives should be spanked on Easter Monday on order to say beautiful and healthy for another year.
In the town of Haux in Gironde, France they cook a giant omlette in the town
square on Easter Monday.
